Music

We have been having lots of fun in Music class. Reception classes visit the music room in Juniors twice each week, for 1/2 hour. Class always begins with a greeting song. We then we use rhythm sticks or another instrument to greet each child by name, reinforcing names and also building pre-literacy skills by breaking names into syllables. We sing and spend some time listening and moving to music from different places in the world. In this short video, children are playing shaker eggs with the song, I Know a Chicken, dancing to Kenyan, South African, and Ethiopian music, and singing a song by Ella Jenkins called, You'll Sing a Song, I'll Sing a Song. Enjoy!
