Thursday was Spider Day!

In the Reception Class the children have been finding out about minibeasts. Today we decided to have a Spider Day!

The Central Idea and questions for our Unit of Inquiry.

We talked about spiders and the 's' sound. We noticed than some people also had names that started with 's' - Sana, Sally and Simon! We watched a short programme about Spiders to find out more.

Finding out about spiders.

If you like, you can watch the video with your Mum and Dad this weekend and talk about the things that you found out. Here is the Spider video:

We talked about the video that we had seen and thought about some of the words that we might need if we were going to write our own book about spiders.

These are the words we thought might be useful.

We found out that there were 18 books in the Infant Library about spiders. We worked in a group to find out more about spiders using the library books. We made our own books using the information that we had found.

Spider research and spider book making.

We also made our own spiders. We made sure that our spiders had 8 legs. We counted 4 legs on each side. We noticed that 4 and 4 makes 8!

While we were doing our spider work, some children decided to build a boat outside.

After we had all finished our spider work we did some minibeast dancing. Click on the 'play' button below to listen to the music for our dance. You can listen at home with your mum or dad and show them how to do the shake and wiggle dance this weekend!

Our spider pictures and spider books are displayed in our classroom. Come and read our books!

You can see our pictures and read our spider books in class.
