Measuring is a major part of our lives!

Things you can do at home to enrich your child's experience with measuring:-

I have been thinking a lot about this maths focus and it seems that we measure just about everything in every way!

  • If you have time to cook with your child, show them the speedometer on the car, the controls on a T.V. a fridge, A/C remote control etc these are all ways in which we can measure things in the real world.

  • The children are showing me the thermometer every day and we are comparing inside and outside temperatures. Maybe you have a thermometer at home you can look at.

  • Maybe you have some bathroom scales at home and you can see what happens when you stand on them or put  a suitcase on them.....

  • We are using language like, small, smaller, smallest, hot, hotter, hottest, fast, faster fastest, 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc

We have been using non-standard units to measure our height. The paintings are on display near the EAL room in the Junior Block.
