Free Inquiry/Personal Investigations
- The children have sustained time to develop, extend and reflect on their own interests every day.
- This time is called ‘Free Inquiry’. The children may play together or on their own in any area of the classroom. Activities and learning engagements and challenges are changed appropriately to promote thinking, independence and creativity.
- It is important that children’s play is valued as an integral and crucial part of learning in Early Years. Through play children learn to be active communicators, thinkers, innovators and problem solvers.
- The ‘play’ is structured in the sense that it is planned for, facilitated and assessed by the teachers: for example; new games and role play will be added, different mediums to use for craft and construction will be promoted. The teachers interact constantly with the children to help them express and extend their ideas and skills.
