A Trick of The light?

We know that light travels in a straight line - we can see when we use the torches - even though the light from the sun is all around us!



So we put a pencil into the glass.... the glass is not broken and the pencil is not broken.....

What happens when light tries to shine through glass AND water?

We did some cool tests to see what happens

 

WOW.... this stem is not broken but it sure looks like it is!

 So  we  decided  to  try  lots  more  things!

We noticed that the scissor handles look bigger when they are in the water!

 
This plastic fork looks like it is bent!

We looked at some stems in a glass without water....... hmmmm, they don't look broken do they?
